Let’s start with who we are not. We are not dull pension’s people. We are a team of pension experts who love what they do.

Between us, CBC has over 70 years’ of experience operating as Pensions Trustee and Pensions Secretary, administering a wide range of schemes and working with numerous scheme advisers and in-house pension managers.

Our clients range from a small UK based technology firm to multi-national manufacturing companies with defined benefit and defined contribution schemes.

We have implemented changes in trustees’ investment strategies, including implementing Liability Driven Investment, appointing Fiduciary Managers, buy-in’s and other de-risking projects such as Enhanced Transfer Values and Pension Increase Exchanges.

We have been Chair of Trustees on three Master Trusts since 2015, a period in which time we have led changes to reflect the increasing focus of The Pensions Regulator (TPR) on Trustees who manage DC schemes.

We use our experience of building and developing scheme governance to reflect TPR initiatives to improve the efficiency of the schemes. For example, we have introduced a matrix to better measure value to members and electronic trustee tools.

CBC are recognised as industry leaders and we are regularly invited to speak at conferences to scheme sponsors, trustees and members as well as to fellow industry experts. In this way we help to drive improving standards in the pensions industry as well as ensuring that our clients have best practice levels of service.

We write pensions articles for professional press, for specialist sites such as Mallowstreet and comment and write blogs for like-minded pensions specialists to follow.

Michael Clark

Owner

Seeing my grandparents struggle with money throughout their life had a profound influence on me. This was compounded when I worked in the DHSS where I saw many people in a state of poverty.

I realised how fortunate I was and that it was important for me to help people have enough money in retirement.

I could have been an IFA helping individuals, but my work as a pension trustee helps companies with thousands of members provide a decent pension scheme ensuring they all have enough money to enjoy their retirement.

The decisions trustees and companies make through my advice and intervention impacts on whether or not people get a pension and that is the very thing that drives me. Ensuring that the pension scheme is run effectively so that their employees get the right pension at the right time is my absolute passion.

I have over 30 years of experience in the pensions industry having helped many clients achieve their desired result from their pension scheme.

I like to keep it simple but effective through developing great relationships with my clients, developing technology based solutions through to creating slick procedures and best practice protocols to cover all bases.

That’s why we at CBC thrive on meeting the challenges facing trustees and creating innovative solutions for our clients.

Dee Mair

Trustee

Dee is an experienced trustee having chaired a £500m defined benefit scheme and is currently a trustee of another large pension scheme. As a former HR director of a major media organisation, Dee brings valuable knowledge and experience to CBC.

Peter Weiner

Professional Trustee and Secretary

Peter has spent his entire working career in the pensions industry where he has spent more than 40 years working in a variety of roles. These include as a pensions consultant before taking on a number of permanent and interim roles as a pensions manager/scheme secretary which provided him with wide experience of different trustee boards, scheme sponsors and advisers.

Karen Espley

Business Consultant

Karen has held various roles in large and small organisations and as a business consultant. Experienced in Prince 2, Karen also holds an MBA. As CBC’s Chief Operating Officer, Karen is responsible for ensuring we have robust systems and processes in place and developing best practice.

Hannah Johnstone

Office manager

Hannah is a highly experienced administrator and PA, having previously worked in a fast paced working environment in London and finding the time to gain a Master degree. Hannah supports our clients and makes sure that the growing CBC team operates effectively.

Sacha Lewis

Marketing & Social Media Manager

Sacha ensures that all of the CBC newsletters and social media footprint is produced on time and is relevant to the audience. The growing number of people interacting with us shows that this is an important area of our work.
